Q4OS Homepage

Many people consider that Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros are the most friendly-user or easy-to-use. It is not wrong, actually, but it not seems likely to be not true. Many distros nowadays have started to do the same as Ubuntu; they make distros to appeal Windows and Mac users by making the distros more easy to use and to install. As for Linux user, like me, installing and using Linux actually are more easier than Windows.

My ASUS X453SA runs smooth enough with Q4OS Trinity Edition

Q4OS is a Debian-based distro that is considered lightweight. The system requirements are far more minimum than other similar distros like Xubuntu, and Linux Lite. It only requires 1 GHz CPU for Plasma Desktop edition and 300MHz CPU for Trinity Desktop Edition. It means that you can use it on your regular old laptops that usually come with 1.5 GHz CPU Intel Celeron. Surprisingly, the Plasma Desktop edition only spent less than 13 GB (according to the official 5 GB) of your storage space. It is far more light than Linux Lite that requires minimum 20 GB space.

I, myself, prefer Trinity Desktop Edition since it is more well-polished, lightweight, and simple.

Only 66% CPU usage

How about the functional features? This distro is not intended to be a minimum distros but it is packed with full-featured packages/apps. However, in during the installation process, you have to choose some installation options. From full-featured “Desktop” to minimal “Pure” without desktop environment are available. My conclusion, Q4OS is not a distro that tends to revive your old laptops but it is more than that. It is just like regular distros; you can use it for your daily and working life.

Furthermore, the user interface is not reduced for the sake of performance like what happens in AntiX, MX Linux, and Bodhi Linux, for examples. Q4OS Plasma Edition uses fully Plasma. Your experience using Plasma in Manjaro or Kubuntu are nearly the same in Q4OS. With the lower consuming resource at the maximum values, Q4OS Plasma Edition does not just bring your old laptops lives but it also gives them the beauty and modern looks.

My review on Q4OS is very good but are there the cons? In my opinion, this kind of distro is not very special especially if you are an IT expert and you have high-end or mid-end laptops. There are a lot of distros you can use that actually much more reliable with larger communities such as the original Debian, Ubuntu, and Arch Linux.

In conclusion, Q4OS is a desktop operating system that is very lightweight but still it is well-polished and easy-to-use. For newcomers, this distro is very suitable as well as for average Linux users. However, this distro may not be so popular but still, it is reliable and it is a real desktop.
